Deanna Braggs, OAOL
My name is Deanna Braggs. I have a Master’s Degree in Education, specializing in Family and Community Services. I homeschooled my twelve kids for a total of seventeen years. I have taught and mentored Adults and children in one capacity or another for thirty years. I have been a huge fan of Forest Schools and the research in outdoor education for a long time now. Since I am a naturalist with a big heart for the environment, sustainable living, and community building, I felt compelled to offer this option to others. The result is Oklahoma Academy of Outdoor Learning – Earthschool, which is the first forest school in Oklahoma, and one of the first for older students, in grades 3rd through 8th.
I have a minor in English, and I love to write. Most of my writing is inspired, and the one thing I missed when I was in school was being able to write from my heart. I want to instill the love of reading and writing in my students and in others: to inspire words with words. It is truly the art of self-expression.
“A word is dead
When it is said,
I say it just
Begins to live
~ Emily Dickinson
OAOL is not just Earthschool. It is an institution of people, who desire to create a more sustainable community. It is about creating community events, holding educational classes that increase understanding in academic classes, and speaking out for urban agriculture within our larger community.
